Seasonal Affective Doldrums
When the rain started last week, there was a collective sigh of relief. Even the trees were more relaxed. The temperatures only barely dropped, though, as the rain came up from the Caribbean and the cold front that was supposed to meet it from the North stalled out. This lead Mike to dust off his favorite weather expression to be used as ubiquitously and as often as possible in conversation: the "Occluded Front." To me, it sounds like a dental problem. At any rate, certain words are like that, they're just fun to say, and if they're seasonal, you have to make the most of them.
Well the rain and grey lingered until yesterday mid-afternoon, and I have to say, by Monday, this wimpy Californian was not holding up too well. Perhaps pregnancy amplifies little things like that, though I have to say that everyone in town seemed to be suffering the same symptoms. In the single day on Wednesday, four different people in town told me they couldn't live in Seattle, for some reason that was the city that stuck in everyone's head here as permanently grey (rightly or wrongly). Yes. Let alone England.
The sun finally made a break and shone upon us right up until five minutes ago (yes, I know, there was night-time in there t00). Whew, that helped.
